Hare Hare

Large Mirror Nijinski

I love these lithe monumental bronze hares by sculptor Barry Flanagan. Their dancing encounter ‘Large Mirror Nijinski’  takes place outside the British Council offices in London, just a hop from Trafalgar Square.

Flanagan was intrigued by hares, “The ears for instance are able to convey far more than a squint in the eye of a figure, or a grimace in the face of the model”.

The Welsh sculptor was a restless soul who lived an itinerant life, though wherever he made his home he always laid green carpet.
